The Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) is pleased to open applications for the 2020 Global Markets Awards, sponsored by greenfence and set to showcase fruitful food safety journeys. For this fourth edition, companies from around the world are encouraged to apply by showing their improvements and commitments in food safety using GFSI’s Global Markets Programme. The Awards Selection Committee are looking for small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that have gone above and beyond to implement the Programme, made improvements to their food safety management systems and seen positive results in their companies.
Award recipients will travel to the GFSI Conference in Seattle, U.S.A. from 25th-28th February 2020, where they will be recognised for their achievements and meet a wide range of global industry experts. Networking opportunities abound at the annual conference, which draws over 1200 delegates from around the world.
The 2019 Global Markets Awards winners shared their inspiring and compelling stories at the GFSI Conference in Nice, France, where it became apparent that each of them had a unique reason for being chosen to represent their region. One company found themselves on the brink of going out of business and successfully leveraged the Global Markets Programme to ultimately achieve certification. Thanks to their tremendous efforts over the course of a couple years, they are back in the game and their business is now thriving. Another winner explained the trouble their company faced in penetrating the national market. They credited the Programme and eventual GFSI-recognised with enabling them to gain more than half of the domestic market. The Journey Towards GFSI's Vision of Safe Food for Consumers Everywhere
The Global Markets Awards are a unique opportunity in which companies can highlight their efforts to advance food safety globally, in pursuit of safe food for consumers everywhere, GFSI’s vision.
The Global Markets Programme is a step-by-step guide and a pathway to certification. It was created eight years ago, providing an unaccredited entry point for companies with its programme designed to build capacity within production and manufacturing operations.
It sets out how companies with non-existent or developing food safety management systems can meet the challenge of food safety, while simultaneously reducing hazards in global food supply chains and improving market access. The ultimate goal is to accompany operations towards certification with one of GFSI’s recognised certification programme owners.
Recognising Food and Beverage Companies from Around the World
Food companies, farms or facilities are eligible to apply if they can demonstrate their food safety journey and illustrate their use of the Global Markets Programme to create an enabling environment for safer food.
The Awards intend to reflect the geographic diversity of the Global Markets Programme’s implementation, with categories for Africa, Asia, Latin America and the rest of the world, as well as an honourary award for the U.S., as the host country of the GFSI Conference 2020.
The Awards Selection Committee is made up of notable food safety figures from diverse backgrounds, representing from both the public and private sectors and spanning four continents. GFSI is pleased to partner with greenfence, who is generously sponsoring these significant awards for the fourth year running.
