I strongly encourage everyone who wants to make a difference in the supply chain to apply or nominate an individual or a company to this award!
As the Chair of the committee in charge of organizing the Global Food Safety Conference of 2017 that will be held February 28 through March 2, 2017 in Houston, Texas, I am delighted to launch the first edition of the GFSI awards during the GFSC 2017!
This will be the 16th conference that the CGF-GFSI has held to promote and raise the bar on food safety globally and is the first time that the conference will recognize three companies or individuals that have leveraged the GFSI Global Markets Programme from beginning to end, resulting in full certification of their company or operations against a GFSI benchmarked food safety management scheme!
The award includes travel and attendance at the 2017 Global Food Safety conference and at the discovery tour prior to the conference. This opportunity was made possible through the generous support of greenfence and I would like to thank them for their sponsorship of this significant milestone for GFSI.
In addition to GFSI’s role as a recognised leader in the benchmarking of global food safety standards, the development of the Global Markets Programme has been hailed by GFSI Stakeholders as one of its premier achievements. Today, this award recognizes the role of the Global Markets Programme to achieve GFSI’s mission to provide continuous improvement in food safety management systems that ensures confidence in the delivery of safe food to consumers worldwide!

Our conference theme this year is “Leadership for Growth”. The work that GFSI is doing on food safety is not only about compliance to regulations and standards, but supports the efforts to feed a growing population that according to estimates will reach 9 Billion people by 2050. This 2017 GFSI Global Markets Programme Award is responding exactly to this year’s theme. Small businesses can use the Global Markets Programme for the development of their food safety management systems to supply safer food while improving market access opportunities.
Since its initial launch, the Global Markets Programme has been adopted by companies around the globe as an entry level food safety solution for small, developing companies in local markets. As the purpose of this award is to recognize the leadership of individuals or companies that will enable the food industry to meet these challenges in the coming years, the GFSC 2017 is the perfect place to celebrate this first ever award for GFSI!
As I told you recently everything is bigger(and better) in Texas and so far we are keeping the promise with this outstanding new award!
