PRESS RELEASE

BEIJING, 3 November 2015 – The Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) today announces a new public-private partnership with the China Nutrition and Health Food Association (CNHFA) as part of a joint commitment to providing safe food for consumers everywhere.

GFSI and the CNHFA announced the MoU for this public-private partnership at the 4th annual GFSI Focus Day China, November 3rd in Beijing.

Local Implementation of a Global Mission

Food safety is a global issue which needs to be addressed locally. To do so, GFSI, the leading collaboration initiative on food safety initiated by the world's leading food safety experts is engaging in a partnership with the CNHFA, an independent, national and non-profit social organisation, co-initiated by the Chinese leading food production and operation entities, scientific research institutes and inspection institutions, with the approval from the State Council and the Ministry of Civil Affairs and endorsed by China Food and Drug Administration (CFDA). This collaboration is to proactively encourage the improvement of food safety management systems locally for enhanced food safety globally.

Cooperation for a Common Goal

GFSI and the CNHFA have agreed that the Food Safety Promotion Committee under the CNHFA shall cooperate with GFSI on many aspects of food safety. GFSI and the CNHFA agree to set up a network for sharing knowledge, resources and best practices on food safety between companies and authorities as well as developing capacity building and education on food safety. They aim to establish self-disciplinary mechanisms, to introduce best-practices methods for food safety management with HACCP and to unify food safety requirements between food purchasers and manufacturers through the development of standards of GFSI.

GFSI is pleased to put its fifteen years of food safety expertise, built collaboratively with some of the world’s leading experts, at the service of the CNHFA for enhanced food safety in China.
