On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the United Nations Industrial Organization, GFSI Director Véronique Discours-Buhot sends her congratulations.
Director General Li Yong, colleagues, friends of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, greetings from Paris!
On behalf of The Consumer Goods Forum, the Global Food Safety Initiative and our member companies, it is my great pleasure to congratulate you on 50 years of outstanding work promoting inclusive and sustainable industrial development. Happy birthday!
At UNIDO, you are giving full attention to food safety within your industrial development work, now more so than ever, as you focus on Sustainable Development Goal 9 for industry, innovation and infrastructure.
When it comes to food safety, collaboration is key to tackling the challenges of today’s complex global supply chains.
In fact, this is why the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) was founded! It was the realisation that no one company or government can achieve food safety alone. It is a collaborative non-competitive issue which requires all hands on deck!
This is why GFSI convenes the global food industry - with the full “farm-to-fork” spectrum – to collaborate on the shared responsibility of food safety. But it doesn’t stop there! It’s about translating thought leadership into collaborative action and continuous improvement in food safety management systems across the supply chain. Ultimately, it’s about giving access to safe food to everyone, no matter where in the world they live.
This is why I am delighted that GFSI and UNIDO are collaborating to achieve these shared goals. Like UNIDO, we at GFSI are convinced about the unique power of public-private partnerships. In fact, successful collaborations between our two organisations go all the way back to 2009! This year, we’ve signed an MoU to embark on a brand new partnership.
Together, we will design and implement a large-scale capability building programme, to help food companies in key regions of the globe meet food safety requirements and supply safe food to local and international markets.
With your vast experience in industrial development and capability building at UNIDO, it would be hard to think of a better partner! From our side, we are pleased to put the GFSI Global Markets Programme to good use as basis for this project.
We look forward to working together even more closely as this programme is rolled out in China, Southeast Asia and Africa.
I strongly believe this partnership will allow us to have a bigger impact, and take us further and faster towards our shared goals!
With 50 years of experience and achievements under your belt, you are in a perfect position to tackle new challenges and continue to contribute in building a better world. As they say, life begins at 50! So from all of us at GFSI and The CGF, I wish you continued successes and many more birthdays to come!
