GFSI Additional Requirements to ISO 17011

In 2008, GFSI created a taskforce to build awareness in the accreditation world of the GFSI recognised food safety scheme requirements and to drive consistency in the approach taken by accreditation bodies worldwide, especially in regard to auditor competence.

The GFSI recognised scheme owners also committed to work together to develop common accreditation requirements under the auspices of GFSI, to simplify and harmonise the work of the accreditation bodies in regard to GFSI recognised schemes.

A document 'GFSI Requirements  on the Application of ISO/IEC 17011:2004' (Conformity assessment for general requirements for accreditation bodies accrediting conformity assessment bodies) was drafted and agreed upon.

This work has been presented to the accreditation bodies worldwide through IAF and EA and also directly by the different scheme owners. The requirements are currently being implemented.
