  • GFSI recognises IFS Scope Extension for Storage and Distribution

    The GFSI Board of Directors is pleased to announce that IFS - International Featured Standards has achieved recognition against the Guidance Document Sixth Edition for the scope of Storage and Distribution (J). This is in addition to the scopes for which IFS has already achieved GFSI recognition (C, D, EI, EII, EIII, EIV, and L). The GFSI Guidance Document’s Scope J, Provision of Storage and Distribution Services, is the latest extension to the scopes covered by the GFSI benchmarking requirements, and includes the management of safety schemes for storage facilities and the distribution vehicles for food and feed.

After an accomplished first year under the leadership of Carol Kellar of Kraft Foods where GFSI entered into a Validation Pilot with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA and the U.S. Food & Drug Administration, Vice Chair Neil Checketts of Sobey’s will lead the group in the coming year.

    The Global Markets Programme will be joining the ITC Standards Map.The International Trade Council (ITC), which aims to enable best practices in trade, is the joint cooperation agency of UNCTAD and the WTO.
    Their Standards Map provides information on over 150 standards, codes of conduct and audit protocols addressing sustainability hotspots in global supply chains.

    The Guidance Document Technical Working Group met in Stamford in October to move forward with the revisions of the current document. Their work continues to focus on the creation of the 7th edition that will be called the Benchmarking Requirements Document. It is scheduled to be released by early 2016.

    The GFSI Guidance Document Technical Working Group (TWG) has the responsibility to continuously review the requirements of food retailers, food suppliers and food service providers to identify the fundamental principles underpinning the GFSI’s scheme recognition process. This Group is currently reviewing the GFSI Guidance Document 6th Edition to identify areas for elaboration in the 7th Edition, to be released in 2015/16.
